Piano Classics on Stage
To learn, read.
To know, write.
To master, teach.
The teacher
During my student years at the Peabody Conservatory I was a teacher’s assistant to the baritone John Shirley-Quirk and Thomas Grubb, author of Singing in French and disciple of Pierre Bernac. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work so closely with these wonderful artists.

Accompanying and coaching the voice students during all these years have broadened my ability to make music and has thus enriched my solo playing.

We pianists can learn so much from good singers and most importantly the way they form the musical phrase. They physically have to breathe whereas we often forget to do so. As a result the music just doesn’t sound natural and organic.

That in combination with my piano teachers have inspired and encouraged me to develop “my” sound and approach. It is continuously developing as I go through life.

Thank you to Heidi Hendrickx for forming me, Levente Kende for triggering my love for the music of Bartok, Jan Wijn for preparing me so diligently for international competitions, Leon Fleisher for encouraging me to play Shubert (one of my favorite composers today) and Ellen Mack for helping me find “my” sound.

I am presently teaching piano and the class “repertoire for singers” at the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas in Castelo Branco (www.esart.ipcb.pt).

Please feel free to contact me for additional information on lessons and coaching.
